Fire's Offensive Identity

Fire has been offered as a starter type in nearly every generation, and its Pokémon are built around hitting hard rather than soaking up hits. Blaziken pairs 120 Attack with 110 Special Attack for a rare dual-attacker profile, while Arcanine's 110 Attack has made it a physical staple since Generation I. Charizard and Typhlosion -- two starters separated by four generations -- land on the exact same 109 Special Attack / 100 Speed split, a coincidence that says a lot about what the type prioritizes.

Legendary Tier and Matchups

Ho-Oh and Reshiram both reach a 680 base stat total, putting them among the strongest Fire types ever recorded, with the beast trio of Entei and Moltres close behind at 580. Offensively, Fire moves are super effective against four types -- Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel -- more than most single types hit for double damage. That spread comes at a cost: Fire is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock, all common types, so switching in blind is risky.
